Get your documents right before you visit any office

Most rejections and repeat visits come from one missing or mismatched paper. This page lays out every document step by step so you can build a complete, consistent file before your appointment. Tick each item, and wherever a document does not match across your IDs, fix that first.

5 Simple Steps

Build your file step by step

01

Confirm both partners' age

Birth certificate, 10th certificate or passport that clearly shows date of birth.

02

Prove identity

Aadhaar, PAN, passport or voter ID, with names matching across every document.

03

Prove current address

Aadhaar, a utility bill, rent agreement or passport for the correct jurisdiction.

04

Add status & special papers

Divorce decree, death certificate, conversion or NRI papers if they apply to you.

05

Arrange witnesses

Witnesses with photo ID and address proof, ready to attend in person.

For both partners (always)

  • Age proof showing date of birth (birth / 10th / passport)
  • Identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN, passport or voter ID)
  • Current address proof for the correct jurisdiction
  • 6 to 8 recent passport-size photographs each
  • Marital-status declaration or affidavit where required

Special Marriage Act (civil marriage)

  • Notice of intended marriage to the Marriage Officer
  • Residence proof for the notice district
  • Both partners' age, identity and address proofs
  • Photographs as specified by the office
  • Witnesses with ID and address proof for the appearance

Arya Samaj ceremony + registration

  • Eligibility proof for a Hindu-rite ceremony
  • Age and identity proofs that match each other
  • Recent photographs of both partners
  • Ceremony details and certificate for later registration
  • Witnesses with valid ID and address proof

If previously married

  • Final divorce decree (if divorced)
  • Spouse's death certificate (if widowed)
  • Documents linking old and current names, if changed
  • Any affidavit the office requires

NRI or foreign national

  • Valid passport and current visa
  • Overseas address proof
  • Single-status or no-objection certificate
  • Apostille or attestation where the country requires it
  • Travel dates planned around the appointment

Marriage certificate (already married)

  • Proof of the marriage (photos, invitation, priest letter)
  • Both spouses' age, identity and address proofs
  • Witnesses who can confirm the marriage
  • Affidavit of marriage where required

Why consistency matters more than quantity

A thick file full of contradictions is weaker than a lean file where everything agrees. Before you submit, line up your age proof, identity proof and address proof side by side and check that the name spelling, the date of birth and the address tell one story. A single-letter difference between your Aadhaar and your passport is enough to delay a registration.

If something does not match, resolve it first through a correction, a supporting document or an affidavit, rather than hoping the office overlooks it. Fixing a mismatch before submission is far easier than after a certificate has been issued.

When to send your documents to us

Share your document list before you book any appointment. We mark each item as ready, doubtful or missing, tell you exactly what to fix, and confirm the route and office that fit your facts. This one review usually saves at least one wasted visit.

You can send the names of your documents first and share images only when we ask for them. Nothing is stored on this website; the contact form simply opens WhatsApp with your details.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Which document is the most important?

A clear age proof showing date of birth that matches your other IDs. Most files stall on age proof or a name mismatch, not on missing photographs.

Is Aadhaar accepted as age proof?

Aadhaar is widely used for identity and address, but many offices want a birth certificate, 10th certificate or passport for age. We confirm what your office accepts.

How many photographs should each partner carry?

Keep 6 to 8 recent passport-size photographs each. Some offices specify size and background, which we check before your appointment.

What documents do witnesses need?

Each witness needs photo ID and address proof, and in many offices must attend in person for the full appointment.

What do divorced or widowed applicants add?

A divorced partner needs the final divorce decree; a widowed partner needs the spouse's death certificate. Both must be clear and final.

What do NRI or foreign-national couples add?

Passport, valid visa, overseas address proof and usually a single-status certificate, sometimes apostilled, depending on the country.
